About The Position

We are the Brands & Marketing S oftware E ngineering T eam within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization at GM. As most customers first step in their car buying journey, o ur team collaborates closely with marketing leaders from across GM . The goal? B uild easy to use tooling to create engaging and innovative web experiences that scale to millions of visitors each month , worldwide , while providing meaningful value through a seamless customer experience. Our mission is to rapidly and relentlessly ideate , iterate, and launch the next generation of innovative solutions to connect GM with current and future customers. Our team comprises industry-leading software engineers, who utilize a variety of innovative development methodologies and technologies to achieve breakthrough results, drive innovation, and delight customers. We are looking for an exceptional software engineer who is excited about building web products across General Motors. You will be responsible for helping lead our content management engineering efforts through planning, design and architecture, execution, and ramp. As a technical leader on the team, you will be able to help mentor less experienced engineers, build strong relationships with technical leaders on other teams, and facilitate a strong team culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 8 + years of experience in web application development on both the backend (Java S cript / Java / .NET / PHP) and frontend technologies ( HTML / CSS / JavaScript )
  • Proven e xperience building full (headful and headless) CMS solutions with one or two different systems , such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) , Umbraco, Liferay, SiteCore and others , used across multiple sites
  • 5 + years of experience contributing to the architecture, documentation and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
  • Experience working with multi-tier production software systems utilizing and building HTTP APIs (REST, GraphQL ) and Content Management Systems , like Adobe Experience Manager
  • Demonstrated ability to understand a variety of tech stack s , debug code and write tests
  • Enthusiastic about the opportunity of impacting the engineering culture from the bottom up

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 1 0 + years of experience in web frontend, application & services development
  • Expertise in 7 + years of experience contributing to the architecture, documentation and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
  • Proven e xpertise building full (headful and headless) CMS solutions with several systems , such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Umbraco, Liferay, SiteCore and others , used across several sites

Responsibilities

  • Be a tech nical lead partnering with other senior technical leaders , actively mentor other engineers on the team and collaborate with multiple teams on complex projects with various leadership stakeholders
  • Be ready to jump into both green field and brown field projects to create solutions using modern technical patterns for new systems while also upleveling existing systems
  • Architect data structures, map out GUI authoring experiences, implement groups and user permissions management, and build template s and component structures
  • Lead the team in building scalable , performant web experiences from zero to one with content management hooks so they can be modified by non-technical users across various international regions and brands
  • Produce high quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration
  • Investigate & resolve performance bottlenecks
  • Leverage your technical leadership to ensure we adhere to engineering best practices, and evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity and craftsmanship
