About The Position

We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Blockchain Protocols in the United States. In this role, you will lead complex engineering projects that span multiple teams, shaping the vision and execution of blockchain and network protocols. You will architect and maintain highly scalable, secure, and reliable distributed systems while mentoring engineers across the organization. This position offers the chance to work at the intersection of cutting-edge technology, cryptography, and global security, tackling high-impact challenges that affect billions of users. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, guide technical roadmaps, and ensure system health, operational excellence, and innovation across the stack in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing network protocols and distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in lower-level programming languages such as Rust, C++, or Java, and knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, gRPC, libp2p, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, and Elasticsearch.
  • Hands-on experience with peer-to-peer networking, client-server protocol development, and real-time communication systems preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and across global time zones.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical roadmaps and influence engineering practices at a multi-team scale.
  • Passion for blockchain protocols, cryptography, and building secure, high-performance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the scoping, design, and implementation of blockchain and network protocols impacting multiple teams.
  • Architect and build highly scalable, reliable, and data-intensive distributed systems from concept to production.
  • Optimize protocol behaviors including message passing, consensus, synchronization, and fault tolerance in distributed environments.
  • Ensure system health, quality, and operational excellence through testing strategies, monitoring, and performance reviews.
  • Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, fostering technical growth, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to align on priorities, delivery, and innovation.
  • Lead initiatives in peer-to-peer networking, block propagation, chain re-organization detection, and network observability.
