About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software lifecycle from design through deployment and maintenance. This role requires expertise in cloud-native architectures, API design, and AI/ML integration to build resilient, modular solutions. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to align priorities and ensure quality. Your contributions will enhance developer productivity and support business objectives through innovative, data-driven engineering practices within an agile environment. The Philanthropy Engineering team advances Walmart's commitment to responsible business and community support by developing cloud-native backend services using open-source technologies. This team collaborates closely with engineers, UX designers, and product managers to create scalable, maintainable solutions that support corporate social responsibility initiatives, including disaster relief and community programs. The environment values technical expertise and innovation, delivering impactful technology-driven products that align with business goals and enhance community engagement. Team members apply agile methodologies and leverage skills in Spring Boot, APIs, Java, and cloud databases to build reliable, efficient software solutions.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in Java programming and development of scalable, cloud-native applications using microservices and containerization.
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot framework and API design, ensuring secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies and development testing to support continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Azure Cosmos DB and PostgreSQL for efficient data management and storage solutions.
  • Ability to lead system design reviews and apply architectural best practices to deliver high-quality software products.
  • Demonstrated skills in mentoring engineers and fostering technical growth within teams.
  • Effective collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex requirements into actionable engineering plans

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and machine learning frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate machine learning components to enhance automation and intelligence.
  • Lead system design reviews to validate quality, feasibility, and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
  • Continuously improve processes, tools, and products through innovation and data-driven practices.
