This Staff Software Development Engineer (IBMi) position is a key role within the Claims Adjudication team, serving as a Staff Technical advisor and a role model for peers and clients in IBMi application development. The opening is due to a promotion, and the team is seeking a passionate technologist with a consultative approach, specializing as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in modern RPG and IBMi SQL. The role operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring in-office presence from Tuesday through Thursday at one of the following locations: Richardson, TX; Scottsdale, AZ; or Buffalo Grove, IL. Within the IBM i application development domain, the successful candidate will collaborate with various teams, providing benchmarked solutions for complex technical projects that involve multiple interlocking technologies. Responsibilities also include establishing and implementing technical direction, standards, guidelines, and methodologies for specific technologies, as well as resolving highly technical and complex problems across multiple projects or teams. The role involves educating technical staff on new and emerging technologies, contributing to strategic and enterprise-wide technical direction, and creating or revising operating procedures related to IS processes and technologies. A significant part of the role will be collaborating on Database and Application Modernization efforts, and mentoring and training developers and other team members on IBM i platform best practices, new features, and enhancements. Additionally, the Staff Software Development Engineer will provide technical advisory services related to database and architecture, working closely with teams to deliver effective solutions.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience and a demonstrated deep understanding of IBM i technology and application development.
  • 7+ years of experience with IBM i, iSeries, System i, AS400, AS/400 platform, i5/OS knowledge.
  • 3+ years of experience leading concurrent technical projects on IBM i.
  • 7+ years of application development experience in ILE RPG, RPG IV, CL, and DB2 for i SQL knowledge.
  • 3+ years of experience in maintaining, enhancing, and developing IBM DB2 for i databases.
  • Develop and manage standards and best practices for SQL and DB2.
  • Demonstrated successful completion of several medium to large scope projects.
  • Proficiency working on all phases of SDLC and with problem determination and resolution through research and fact finding.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep understanding of IBM i ILE concepts and implementations.
  • 5+ years of X-analysis, ALDON, or Hawkeye Experience.
  • Experience with iDoctor Job Watcher, PEX, DBMON and other performance tools.
  • Strong relational database design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM Access Client Solutions (ACS) for RUN SQL Scripts and SQL Performance Center.
  • Able to assist project teams using Visual Explain charts for optimization of SQL statements used in application development solutions and SQL Production Change Requests (PCR) reviews.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi) for application development, system management, including RDi Install support and upgrades.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM i Operating System, commands, and System APIs, with a proven record of optimizing application programs to maximize the usage of these system services.
  • Able to understand application code and write SQL statements for data conditioning and replace native file IO with SQL Set based processing.
  • Experience with RxClaim or other PBM Adjudication system.
  • Knowledge of HA software and Replication Tools (DB2 Mirror, MIMIX, iTera, OMS, etc.).
  • Synon experience.
