About The Position

The Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing staff engaged in a variety of administration, personnel and position control related activities. The SSM I analyzes personnel-related correspondence, regulations, and policies, drafts policies and procedures and consults with management on highly sensitive and confidential personnel issues. Additionally, the SSM I generates ongoing and ad-hoc personnel and position control related reports. The SSM I identifies and resolves problems, makes critical decisions, and assesses risks associated with unit management. The SSM I effectively communicates with their direct supervisor and works cooperatively to promote partnerships with other supervisors, managers, and internal and external stakeholders. The SSM I monitors progress and ensures the timely completion of assignments, while training and coaching staff as well as supervising, appraising, and managing staff performance. The incumbent works under the general direction of the SSM II (Supervisory), Administration, Labor Relations & Position Control Section (ALRPCS) Chief, within the Human Resources Division (HRD). Teleworking is available for this position, in accordance with CDPH's Telework Policy and Procedures.
