About The Position

As a Staff Search Relevance Engineer, you’ll help millions of customers find what they need quickly and easily on BestBuy.com and in our app. You’ll lead efforts to make search smarter and more intuitive using semantic search, personalization, and machine learning. If you love solving complex problems and improving customer experiences, this role is for you. This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days at our corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota, and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. What you’ll do

Requirements

• 5 years of professional software development experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience.
• 5 years of experience with Object Oriented Software to include Java, Kotlin, or Python
• 1 year of experience with Elasticsearch, Apache Solr, OpenSearch, or other search engines or vector databases

Nice To Haves

• 7 years of relevant professional experience
• 3 years of experience with search engines or vector databases

Responsibilities

• Optimize search relevance using semantic and lexical techniques
• Design and tune ranking algorithms to improve results
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver impactful solutions
• Use experimentation and A/B testing to validate improvements
• Build frameworks for offline evaluation and quick iteration
• Act as a technical leader, mentoring others and influencing system design
