About The Position

Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research. The Chintan Parekh Lab is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Staff Scientist to join the Pediatrics basic science research group. This role is crucial for advancing our discovery programs by enabling the generation of high-quality, reproducible data across both genomics and proteomics platforms. You will be a hands-on laboratory specialist with expertise in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library construction. This position requires exceptional attention to detail and a proactive approach to establishing cutting-edge laboratory protocols.

Requirements

  • The Staff Scientist must possess, at a minimum, the U.S. equivalent Bachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate discipline, and will often have a Ph.D. or other doctoral level degree.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with some form of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation (e.g. RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, etc.) is required
  • Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and data integrity, and the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Library Preparation (Main Focus): You will independently perform the end-to-end preparation of complex NGS libraries from diverse sample types (e.g., cells, tissues). This includes executing established protocols for various sequencing assays, such as Transcriptomics (RNA-sequencing or RNA-seq), Epigenetics (ATAC-sequencing or ATAC-seq and Cleavage Under Targets and Release Using Nuclease or CUT&RUN), and Genetics (Exome Sequencing or WES). You will also manage quality control steps (e.g., concentration, fragment analysis) and troubleshooting of library preparation workflows.
  • Assay Development and Protocol Establishment: You will be required to establish, optimize, and formally document new laboratory protocols for cutting-edge and newly published sequencing assays to expand the team's capabilities. You will also evaluate and integrate new reagents, kits, and technologies to improve library preparation efficiency and quality.
  • Mass Spectrometry Sample Preparation: You will prepare biological samples (e.g., protein lysates, fractionated samples) for subsequent Mass Spectrometry (MS) analysis.
