About The Position

Weston & Sampson’s climate resilience team is rapidly growing, and we are seeking a Summer 2026 Staff Scientist/Engineering Intern (Co-Op) to join us! Our team is made up of professionals in engineering, environmental science, planning, and geospatial technologies who collaborate on a wide variety of projects. These include resilient waterfront and park design, transportation and utility infrastructure, watershed and stormwater management, and municipal climate action planning. This position is based out of our offices in MA, with opportunities to support projects throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. What you will do: Students will be assisting the engineering staff with project related tasks but including: Analyze and interpret environmental, climate, and infrastructure data to support vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning. Apply Python, ArcPy, and ArcGIS Pro to process large datasets, automate workflows, and develop custom geospatial tools. Build and maintain ArcGIS Online resources such as web maps, dashboards, and StoryMaps for clients and public outreach. Prepare technical reports, data summaries, graphics, and presentations that communicate scientific findings to a range of audiences. Contribute to the development of climate adaptation strategies by integrating climate projections, exposure mapping, and resilience indicators. Support project managers with research, data analysis, technical writing, and preparation of deliverables. Participate in stakeholder engagement and community meetings by sharing findings and helping translate complex data into clear, actionable information.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, earth science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Students with 2 years of coursework completed are preferred.
  • Familiarity with geospatial data analysis and data processing using Python.
  • Introductory knowledge in Python (with ArcPy), ArcGIS Pro, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills, with the ability to present technical results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Interest in applied research and innovative approaches to climate adaptation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ArcGIS Online (web maps, dashboards, StoryMaps) is desirable but not required.
