About The Position

The Surgical Services OP/SP RN assumes responsibility and accountability for designated patients undergoing surgical & special procedures, utilizing the nursing process. Provides care to patients according to Marshall Medical Center’s standards of practice. Validates that the patient is physically and emotionally ready for the intended surgery or special procedure, pre-procedure, providing pre-procedure and post-procedure patient and family education. Provides post- procedure care until the patient is ready to be discharged home or if necessary admitted to the hospital and care is turned over to the Primary Care Nurse. Maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner. Functions as the patient’s advocate at all times. Oversees the performance of any non-professional whose activities impact their patient’s care. Ensures the safe handling of infectious material to protect all patients and employees.

Requirements

  • Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Has the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish duties of a RN, able to meet the pharmacology requirements of Marshall Medical Center and computer familiarity.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous outpatient and/or special procedure (endoscopy) nursing experience preferred.
