About The Position

The Surgical Services PACU RN at Marshall Medical Center is responsible for the care of designated patients following surgical and special procedures, utilizing the nursing process and adhering to MMC’s standards of practice. This includes providing intensive nursing care in the immediate post-operative period until care is transferred to the Primary Care Nurse. The role also involves maintaining good public relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff, acting as the patient’s advocate, overseeing non-professional staff impacting patient care, and ensuring safe handling of infectious material. Requirements

  • Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
  • Has the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish duties of a PACU RN.
  • Able to meet the pharmacology requirements of Marshall Medical Center.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • When on call, incumbent must be able to arrive to hospital and report to duty within 30 minutes of request.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Emergency Room (ER) nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for designated patients following surgical and special procedures, utilizing the nursing process.
  • Provides care to these patients according to Marshall Medical Center’s (MMC’s) standards of practice.
  • Provides intensive nursing care in the immediate post-operative period and until they have transferred the care of the patient to the Primary Care Nurse.
  • Maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Functions as the patient’s advocate at all times.
  • Oversees the performance of any non-professional whose activities impact their patient’s care.
  • Ensures the safe handling of infectious material to protect all patients and employees.
