About The Position

Stamford Health is hiring a PER DIEM Pre-Op/PACU Staff RN at our Tully Health Center location, 32 Strawberry Hill Ct, Stamford CT! The position is Monday through Friday with 8-hour shifts, hours VARY between 6am to 7pm (hours could extend past 7pm). Requirements

  • Current Connecticut nursing license required
  • BLS/ ACLS certification required
  • PALS certification within first year of hire
  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in either a hospital or ambulatory surgical center setting required. ICU / ED experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, surgical center staff, physicians, and other health care workers. Able to read, write and speak English.
  • Maintain a minimum of 6 contact hours annually

Nice To Haves

  • BSN Preferred
  • Peri anesthesia certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Respects and protects the patient’s rights to confidentiality and privacy and discloses information only for professional purposes which are in the patient’s best interests with full consideration of their legal rights.
  • Provides safe patient care by verifying patient identification and assuring the presence of the necessary documents, laboratory tests, consents, equipment, and radiology images.
  • Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation.
  • Practices the 5 Rights to patient safety when administering medications, blood, or blood products and treatments. (Right patient, right medication, right route, right dose, right time)
  • Adhere to aseptic practices to protect patients from injury, minimize wound contamination and reduce patient risk for surgical site infection.
  • Demonstrates competency in IV insertion and discontinuation of same.
  • Maintains patent airway, including adult and pediatric patients.
  • Manages monitoring and respiratory equipment, fluid lines, tubes, drains and catheters.
  • Formulate appropriate teaching plan based on patient age, understanding level, etc. Address patient/family/responsible adult questions and assess understanding of education
  • Evaluates patient’s readiness for discharge from unit and hospital.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures and   standards of care, which contribute to the achievement of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Cross-trains and rotates to other clinical areas in Perioperative services as needed.
  • Applies basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants and other hazardous substances.
  • Uses good nursing judgment in determining appropriate nursing action and exhibits control in emergency situations.
  • Documents pertinent information, observations, and all aspects of patient care clearly, concisely and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the development and clinical precepting of students and new employees.
  • Maintains equipment and utilizes supplies in a safe, cost-effective manner.
  • Complies with hospital attendance policy and department staffing policy and rotations.
  • Adheres to hospital and department specific dress code policy.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures and adheres to external agency     requirements.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Takes responsibility for own professional development.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with all members of the health care team and related departments to provide accurate information about the perioperative care of the patients.
  • Displays a positive attitude and works to achieve an environment of respect, accountability, teamwork, integrity, and compassion.  Does not support or take part in disruptive or negative behavior.
  • Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peer, managers, and other team members.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures and standards of care, which contribute to the achievement of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the multi-modality pain management approach for orthopedic surgery patients.
