About The Position

The Staff Research Associate I/II (SRA I/II) will support the research studies of the Principal Investigator (PI), Kyle Comer, PhD., in understanding the genetics of congenital disorders and developing new therapies to treat them. Our work involves both research in animal models and as well as patient samples, in the broad area of maternal-fetal precision medicine. Past research associates have secured positions in medical school, graduate school, and the biotech industry. Our close-knit team of scientists and clinicians provides an excellent training opportunity for motivated individuals. Pediatric/Fetal Surgery The UCSF Pediatric Surgery and the Bay Area Pediatric Surgeons is the premier Pediatric Surgical Practice for the Bay Area and beyond. Our world-renowned surgeons are dedicated to the care of children, providing expert surgical care of fetuses, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired conditions. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate). Requirements

  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong administrative skills including adeptness in keeping high‑level tasks in perspective while managing all levels of activity.
  • Lab bench skills including pipetting, tissue culture, sample processing
  • Excellent organization skills and ability perform administrative tasks
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Interest in biology and ability to read and understand scientific concepts
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Meticulous, organized
  • In addition to the above, one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in processing of tissues / biobanking
  • Interest in working with animal models including mice
  • Three years’ training and experience in a research laboratory setting; demonstrated knowledge and/or experience working with animal population
  • Three years’ experience with and the ability to care for, work with, and handle small animals
  • Prior experience in developing working protocols and preparing IRB documents and reports
  • Two years’ experience of purchasing making decisions, processing orders and maintaining laboratory equipment
