About The Position

One of the main goals of the Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is to make biospecimens banked at the Sample Processing Laboratory (SPL) / Biospecimen Core (BC) available to researchers who are performing studies related to dementia, aging, and other disorders. To achieve this goal, MAC banks samples from a wide range of studies. These samples are collected to serve the goals of the research study they are collected under, and also to make samples available to other researchers. The SPL/BC is responsible for both the initial processing of such samples and their posterior biobanking. The new SPL/BC member will assume a pivotal role in both operational duties and training responsibilities. They will collaborate closely with clinical research coordinators to integrate participant visits seamlessly into the SPL's workflow. Furthermore, they will be tasked with efficiently processing all samples received daily and meticulously tracking them using the appropriate LIM system. In addition to these responsibilities, the incumbent will work closely with their supervisor to fulfill sample requests from internal and external collaborators, involving the retrieval and preparation of biospecimens stored in our biorepository for shipment. Overall, they will engage in a diverse array of laboratory procedures, including both repetitive tasks and non-standard experimental techniques that demand ingenuity, resourcefulness, and adaptability. This role requires a deep understanding of scientific methodology and familiarity with research literature to contribute original ideas. Moreover, the incumbent will exhibit journey-level knowledge in scientific procedures across multiple scientific fields. As an SRA 3, the new team member will operate under general supervision but will be expected to make independent and innovative contributions to experimental procedures. They will assume responsibility for directing the work of a medium-sized laboratory and performing specialized experimental work, aiming to optimize processes and drive innovation within the field of biospecimen processing. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $30.89 - $49.68 (Hourly Rate).
