About The Position
The Staff Reporter at Daily Kos plays a crucial role in the Newsroom team, contributing to the Content Division by writing about politics through a progressive lens. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about advocacy journalism and are eager to provide readers with the information and resources necessary to engage in democracy, win elections, and influence government policies. The Staff Reporter will be responsible for identifying and pitching multiple stories daily, which may range from quick pieces with unique angles on current political news to longer, originally reported stories and analyses. This role requires building and maintaining relationships with leaders and staff in elected officials' offices, campaigns, and advocacy organizations, ensuring that the newsroom is well-informed and able to cover breaking news and live events effectively, such as election nights and presidential debates. In addition to writing, the Staff Reporter will help track news developments in real-time, alerting editors to breaking news as it happens. The use of video-clipping software, such as TVEyes, will be necessary to incorporate relevant video content into stories. Building a personal brand through an active social media presence is also encouraged, as it helps to amplify the reach and impact of the reporting. The position may require weekend work, reflecting the dynamic nature of news reporting in a fast-paced environment. Overall, the Staff Reporter will be an integral part of a team dedicated to transforming media and organizing by empowering regular Americans to reshape politics.
