About The Position

This is a direct patient care position which requires General Core Psychology privileges and serves both an outpatient and inpatient population. The employee treats a wide variety of geriatric medical and psychological conditions and demonstrates knowledge regarding the role and interaction of cognitive, personality, and other psychological functioning factors. The employee diagnoses mental disorders through conducting a variety of techniques including clinical interview and psychological/ psychosocial assessment. The employee uses a variety of modalities to treat mental disorders and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. Treatment interventions include providing a combination of individual, group and couples/family therapy to patients and their families or caregivers alongside behavioral and environmental interventions. Suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis intervention as well as psychological assessment are also core duties for this position. Consultation with other disciplines on the Silver Team and across the facility are a normal part of this practice. There are no administrative responsibilities associated with this position. However, the employee directly supervises the work of unlicensed Psychologists, practicum students, interns, and post-doctoral fellows. The employee may serve as a member of the Pre-doctoral Psychology Internship and/or Postdoctoral program and participate in applicant interviews, selection and weekly didactic training. As with all Staff Psychologist positions within Mental Health Service, the employee is called upon to serve on ad hoc workgroups or committees within the service to address problems and concerns of the profession and service. The employee actively participates in the MH team's performance improvement project(s) aimed at evaluating inefficiencies within the clinic and developing strategies to remedy such issues. The employee assists with coverage of other mental health areas if deemed necessary by Service Leadership. The employee uses applicable VA software to manage a wide range of clinic needs
