About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. The Substance Use Disorder-Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (SUD-PTSD) Staff Psychologist provides professional psychologist services as a member of the PTSD Clinical Team (PCT) and as a liaison to the Addiction Recovery Services (ARS) specialty team. The SUD-PTSD psychologist also consults with providers throughout the medical center and community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) who may directly interact with Veterans presenting with co-occurring PTSD and SUD (e.g., BHIP, acute psychiatry, inpatient/residential PTSD program staff, PC-MHI teams).

Responsibilities

  • Provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services appropriate to the care setting, especially in the areas of general psychological evaluation of emotional and behavioral problems and focused psychosocial, cognitive, or other assessments
  • Serves as an authoritative source of information in the use and interpretation of tests to make differential diagnoses
  • Offers a full range of group and individual mental health interventions consistent with training and expertise, with special emphasis on brief and evidenced-based interventions found to be effective in the treatment of PTSD and SUD.
  • Actively engages in treatment planning and clinical care meetings within the PTSD and ARS programs both with and without Veterans present, to facilitate care planning and collaborative, complex care management and coordination.
  • Provides individual and team consultation and education/training regarding Veterans presenting with co-occurring PTSD and SUD to PCT/PTSD specialty providers, SUD clinics, and/or other clinical teams throughout the medical center and CBOCs in accordance with VA/DoD CPG
