About The Position

The position is for a Staff Psychologist on the Telemental Health Team within the Mental Health Service at the VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas, TX. The primary purpose is to provide a variety of outpatient services, including evidence-based psychotherapy (individual, group, and couples/family therapy) and psychological screenings and evaluations for Veterans. The role also involves consultation with other disciplines and participation in team-related activities.

Requirements

  • Must meet specific individual eligibility requirements for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).
  • Training in evidence-based treatments relevant to the position.
  • Ability to work with Seriously Mentally Ill patients and understand complicating factors such as substance abuse and medical conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in providing cognitive and behavioral therapy approaches.
  • Knowledge of crisis management and patient safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions for a mental health outpatient team, including individual therapy, couples/family therapy, group therapy, and psychoeducation.
  • Administer and interpret psychological assessment tools and conduct psychological interviews and testing.
  • Respond to patient crisis situations and provide suicide risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Consult with medical center staff regarding patient care issues and engage in team activities.
  • Stay knowledgeable of current research literature and engage in measurement-based care.
