About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. The psychologist for whom this functional statement applies is a member of the Primary Care Mental Health Integration Program assigned to provide Collaborative Care at the Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCV A), Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOCs), or Honor Annex. Incumbent provides the full range of psychological services as an integral member of the co-located primary care integration team, including psychological assessment, brief individual psychotherapy, health oriented behavioral groups, and assisting the team in the clinical management of their patients by providing psychological/behavioral health expertise to the medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provides psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders for primary care providers.
  • Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Provides short term, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy using a variety of modalities including in-person and tele-mental healthcare (VVC, CVT, and phone).
  • Provides consultation to professional staff within KCVA and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients.
  • Functions independently as a member of the KCVA with full clinical privileges. Assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
  • Provides comprehensive professional care documentation in the patient record system, adhering with timeliness standards for quality care.
  • Assists the PC-MHI Program Manager and PC leadership in the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for a team of treatment providers.
  • Adheres to operational policies and procedures established by the Mental Health Chief.
  • Assists the PC-MHI Program Manager and PC leadership in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program.
  • Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services.
  • Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
  • Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures ( e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes).
  • May be asked to prepare & teach seminars/workshops for VATVCBHCS trainees/staff on topics within interest/competency areas.
  • May be asked to serve as a member of various VATVCBHCS MH, VATVCBHCS &/or VISN committees.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
