Requirements

  • MD degree and completed residency in psychiatry. Experience in addiction psychiatry.
  • Verbal skills that produce clear communication with patients, staff, Board of Directors, third party payers, members of the community, etc.
  • Writing skills that produce accurate documentation in the medical record, correspondence, administrative documents, etc.
  • Ability to precisely and accurately calculate medications.
  • Interpret clinical information to make accurate diagnoses and treatment plans. Collect data and define problems to draw valid conclusions and design interventions.
  • Current Maryland medical license, DEA and State of Maryland certificates to dispense controlled substances.
  • Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain a history of current and past psychiatric symptoms with consideration given to addiction, medical status, detoxification status, and family histories.
  • Dictate or type into the chart the psychiatric evaluation with a diagnostic impression and recommendations.
  • Order medication as appropriate.
  • Record every patient contact in the chart with impressions, and actions taken.
  • Consult with Nursing and/or medical staff by telephone for psychiatric/behavior problems that occur when not on premises.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities.
