About The Position

As a global upstream product manager on the da Vinci Multiport team, you will serve as a key development and design-stage stakeholder across multiple surgical imaging initiatives. In addition to representing relevant clinical specialties (e.g., urology), you will help guide products that incorporate advanced visualization technologies such as fluorescence imaging, near-infrared (NIR) imaging, real-time perfusion assessment, and next-generation multispectral or hyperspectral imaging modalities. You will work with cross-functional partners to identify unmet user needs, guide products through the development lifecycle, participate in technology evaluations, and help build the long-term strategy for the Multiport imaging and visualization portfolio. Responsibilities include product strategy, user needs & requirements, market insights, competitive analysis, and supporting commercialization efforts across global markets. This is an individual contributor role reporting to a Senior Group Product Manager.

Requirements

  • Humble, mindful of others' input, strong communicator.
  • Self-directed with the ability to seek guidance and develop expertise proactively.
  • Excellent collaboration skills across engineering, design, marketing, clinical, and commercial teams.
  • Strong presentation and executive communication skills.
  • Quantitative mindset with strength in open-ended problem solving and first-principles analysis.
  • Proven ability to operate amid competing priorities and manage multiple workstreams.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree
  • At least 5 years in medical devices and 8+ years cumulative professional experience in product management, engineering, marketing, business development, or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years upstream product management experience in a medical device company
  • Experience working with imaging modalities used in minimally invasive or robotic-assisted surgery, such as:
  • - Fluorescence imaging / NIR / ICG
  • - Multispectral or hyperspectral imaging
  • - Autofluorescence or reflectance imaging
  • - Tissue perfusion or oxygenation visualization
  • - Real-time video processing, image fusion, or spectral unmixing
  • - Endoscope or optical system development (illumination, filters, optics, sensors)
  • Familiarity with optoelectronics, biomedical optics, photonics, image processing, or sensor technologies relevant to surgical visualization is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop deep expertise in surgical visualization workflows, including how surgeons use advanced imaging technologies (e.g., fluorescence, NIR, ICG, spectral/hyperspectral imaging, real-time perfusion visualization, autofluorescence, reflectance imaging) to guide clinical decisions during minimally invasive procedures.
  • This includes monitoring clinical literature, attending conferences, engaging KOLs, and observing robotic cases domestically and internationally.
  • Capture, refine, and validate user needs related to endoscopic imaging performance-sensitivity, specificity, contrast, illumination, optics, color accuracy, overlay fidelity, signal-to-noise optimization, and other parameters affecting image quality and surgical decision-making. Translate these into clear design requirements for engineering.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams working on:
  • Endoscopic optics and illumination (e.g., LEDs/lasers, excitation sources, optical filters, light path design)
  • CMOS/CCD sensors and imaging pipelines
  • Real-time visualization algorithms (e.g., image fusion, spectral unmixing, fluorescence overlays, calibration)
  • System-level image quality, latency, and usability
  • Providing guidance that balances user needs, clinical value, feasibility, and system constraints.
  • Assist in managing the Multiport imaging roadmap, incorporating both platform needs and advanced imaging opportunities. Develop business cases for imaging and visualization features, synthesizing clinical value, technical feasibility, and competitive landscape.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research (VOE/VOC, segmentation, conjoint, ethnography) to inform imaging and visualization strategy. Use structured insights to drive decisions on new imaging modalities and performance thresholds.
  • Collaboratively develop global commercialization plans, including value messaging for advanced imaging technologies, competitive differentiation, and training requirements.
  • Partner with engineering and business development to evaluate new optical, photonics, sensing, and spectral imaging technologies; prioritize which should move into feasibility, development, or partnership exploration.
