About The Position

The Trellis Design System team is leading a multi-year modernization of HubSpot’s core design system at a pivotal moment: interaction paradigms are shifting rapidly with AI. Today’s transitional Trellis library includes 300+ components and years of fragmentation across hundreds of downstream platform libraries. Many lack documentation, ownership, or alignment. Our mission is not just to modernize a library — it’s to rebuild horizontal infrastructure for the entire HubSpot platform. As a Staff Product Designer focused on Design Systems, you’ll: Validate our future vision for the platform with users Reduce the core component footprint from 300+ to ~60 scalable primitives and reusable components Establish parity between Figma, documentation, and React code Embed accessibility, internationalization, RTL, and model-connected contracts directly into component APIs Create governance, scalable workflows and cross-team decision frameworks to prevent further fragmentation through modernization pilots with key platform teams Invest heavily in automation and emerging tooling to accelerate us The goal: deliver a truly self-serve, modernized design system by the end of 2026 that product teams trust and adopt by default.

Requirements

  • Significant experience designing and evolving complex design systems or component libraries at scale.
  • Deep expertise in UX patterns, interaction models, and information architecture for enterprise or multi-product platforms.
  • Proven track record of leading modernization or system-wide initiatives without direct management authority.
  • Experience partnering closely with engineering teams on implementation details, governance models, and scalable processes.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple product areas.
  • Experience turning exploratory pilots into operationalized frameworks, playbooks, and backlog-ready initiatives.
  • A systems-thinking mindset with the ability to balance immediate product needs and long-term platform health.
  • A portfolio demonstrating high-quality craft, strategic thinking, and measurable impact across complex surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Designing cross-platform components and patterns and operationalizing workflows
