The goal of this role at Wisk is to ensure that we design safe and reliable high power electronics for the aircraft. You will be part of the Propulsion team in the Powertrain IPT. This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days. What you will do: As part of the Powertrain IPT organization and deployed in the Motor Controller Hardware Team, you will act as a seasoned engineer and designer focused in the design and development of low/high voltage electronics for a high power inverter. You will take part in designing high reliability power architectures and control electronics in accordance with relevant military standards, DO-254 standards, FMEA analysis, and tight tolerance/temperature restraints. You will support motor controller testing, dyno testing, propeller testing, and also aircraft testing as an expert in power electronics. You will take ownership of designs and oversee all aspects of lifecycle development including but not limited to: concept, board design, multi-functional team coordination, deployment of design into product lifecycle management (PLM) software, design verification testing, standardized documentation, requirements verification, and troubleshooting of issues during experimentation. You will regularly coordinate with teams outside of the Motor Controller Team (mechanical, thermal, flight bus, systems, safety) and design to requirements as needed to meet goals of other IPTs. You will help conceptualize designs that optimize the weight and power density of the propulsion unit.

Requirements

  • PhD with 4 years experience, MSEE degree with at least 7 years of experience, or a BSEE/BSME degree with at least 9 years of experience
  • Experienced in developing multi-kilowatt power electronics and motor controllers
  • Experienced in weight optimizing power electronics
  • Experience designing for and troubleshooting EMI/EMC related issues
  • Experience in troubleshooting issues during the testing phase of integrated designs
  • A good grasp of analog and digital hardware development and validation techniques
  • Ability to model, simulate and optimize performance in MATLAB and PLECS
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DO-160/DO-254 certification and aerospace development best practices and standards
  • Experience with weight minimization is strongly desired
  • Experience with 10kW and above three-phase motor drive hardware design is strongly desired
  • Motor Control theory (FOC, DTC, etc.)
  • Familiar with electromagnetic motor design
  • Familiarity with Altium designer
  • Experience developing thermal management approaches for power electronics
  • Familiarity with the latest SiC and GaN power electronic devices
  • Experience writing and executing test procedures for design validation and qualification
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461
