We are looking for a Staff Platform Engineer to take ownership of our infrastructure and developer experience. This is a unique role for someone who wants to remain deeply hands-on while also leading a small team of 2–4 engineers. You’ll consolidate responsibilities currently distributed across the org, and transition Platform Engineering into a focused, high-performing function inside Inspiren. You’ll partner closely with product engineering, data, and hardware teams while driving our efforts in CI/CD, observability, security, and compliance. This role combines technical depth with leadership: you’ll write code and build systems while also mentoring others and shaping the future of the team.

  • Own the scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency of our cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Proactively monitor capacity to match growth, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and implement backups and disaster recovery processes.
  • Build and operate monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to detect issues before they impact customers.
  • Participate in on-call, lead incident response, and drive blameless postmortems to continuously improve MTTR.
  • Design, implement, and optimize pipelines that automate builds, tests, and deployments.
  • Establish rollback procedures and runbooks for failed deployments, and continuously improve automation for both speed and reliability.
  • Implement a comprehensive automated testing strategy within CI/CD.
  • Configure quality gates, integrate static analysis and security scans, expand unit and integration test coverage, and build dashboards to provide visibility into pipeline health.
  • Apply and enforce security best practices in infrastructure, IAM, and deployments.
  • Support SOC2 and HIPAA compliance through robust access controls, data protection strategies, and secure coding practices.
  • Partner with product and application engineers to ensure architectural decisions are reliable and scalable.
  • Build a seamless onboarding experience so new engineers can set up environments quickly and confidently deploy their first changes.
  • 8+ years in DevOps, SRE, or Platform/Infrastructure roles, with some leadership experience mentoring or guiding a small team.
  • Hands-on with AWS (Lambda, SQS, SNS, CloudFront, S3, RDS, etc.), scaling infrastructure, troubleshooting production workloads, and optimizing cost and performance.
  • Strong experience with serverless architectures.
  • Proven track record building and refining pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins) with automated deployments, feature flags, rollbacks, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Skilled with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools to manage infrastructure at scale.
  • Strong experience with monitoring/telemetry tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, New Relic, Sentry), setting up dashboards, configuring alerts, and running incident response.
  • Familiarity with integrating tests, static analysis, and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with IoT platforms (e.g., AWS IoT Core), embedded Linux environments, and media/streaming pipelines (e.g., gStreamer).
  • Experience with OTA update frameworks (e.g., Mender, Yocto) is a plus.
  • Excited to transition Platform Engineering in-house, mentor engineers, and partner across Product, Data, and Hardware.
  • Experience managing large fleets of distributed devices (IoT gateways, sensors, cameras), including provisioning, version management, and remote updates.
  • Built monitoring and telemetry for hardware devices to track uptime, failures, and performance.
  • Exposure to secure boot, TPM, encryption at rest, or data protection strategies for edge devices.
  • Experience with SOC2, HIPAA, or other regulated environments where both hardware and cloud must meet strict standards.
  • Annual salary of $180,000-$220,000 + equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision)
  • Flexible PTO
  • Remote work option in the US or Canada, with NYC preferred.
