About The Position

ABOUT THE POSITION : The Student Health Services (SHS) department of The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a Staff Physician to provide comprehensive, age-appropriate outpatient primary medical care to students of The Claremont Colleges within a collaborative, multidisciplinary student health setting. This role is ideal for a physician who is passionate about working with college-aged students, many of whom are learning to navigate their health care independently for the first time, and who values education, prevention, and relationship-based care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following are the fundamental duties and responsibilities of this position which the incumbent must be able to perform to fulfill the purpose and requirements of this position.

Requirements

  • A medical degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Residency training in a primary care specialty (i.e., Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine).
  • Board certified and hold an unrestricted medical license in the state of California and the Drug Enforcement Agency
  • Continuing medical education classes as required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification. Ongoing training for recertification is provided.
  • Proven knowledge in medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the fluctuation of clinical caseload and maintain appropriate records in a timely manner.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating an approachable personality, empathy, and exceptional listening skills.
  • Demonstrate maturity, tact, resiliency, and composure and sensitivity to others needs in crisis, difficult, and unexpected situations.
  • Sensitivity to and embracement of individuals that represent cultural, religious, ethnic and lifestyle diversity.
  • Ability to work as a team member within the health center and throughout the consortium.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with diverse individuals across multiple organizations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work with an electronic health records system for client notes and scheduling.
  • Fluent language skills in English, including the ability to write with proper grammar, spelling, and business etiquette.
  • Provide evidence of the following vaccination(s): ☒ Tdap, Influenza, HBV, MMR, and VZV at the time of hire ☒ TB screening within 30 calendar days of hire, plus once per year thereafter

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, examine, diagnose, and make recommendations for treatment of acute and chronic medical illnesses and minor surgeries.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures including suturing lacerations, removing foreign bodies, wart treatment, and other procedures as required.
  • Provide comprehensive women’s health services including gynecological examinations, cervical and breast cancer screening, contraceptive methods, pregnancy testing, and STI evaluation.
  • Engage in shared decision making and educate students regarding their illnesses, preventive health care, and other subjects as requested.
  • Make appropriate referrals for hospitalization or subspecialty care in the community.
  • Review medical records and laboratory studies.
  • Request appropriate X-rays, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic tests when needed.
  • Perform entrance, athletic, pre-matriculation, employment, and study abroad physical examinations and make recommendations regarding travel immunizations.
  • Work in conjunction with Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services staff in management of students with eating disorders and other mental health issues.
  • Work in conjunction with Health Education Outreach office by providing information on health related issues.
  • Provide consultative services on health-related issues to other campus programs.
  • Review and update patient educational materials.
  • Participate in campus outreach programs as requested.
  • Participate in Peer Review and Quality Improvement programs for Student Health Services.
  • Serve as liaison with student residential life departments, other community health care providers, along with internal collegiate and external agencies.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and in-service training.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
