About The Position

The Staff Physician position at Johnson Health Center (JHC) involves providing primary medical care to patients, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the healthcare team, and maintaining high standards of patient relations. The role requires obtaining complete medical histories, educating patients and families about diagnoses and treatment options, and supporting self-management of health. The physician will also participate in team meetings, perform clinical duties including assessments and diagnoses, and adhere to administrative and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school with a degree in Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy.
  • Completion of an approved residency program in his/her medical specialty.
  • License to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.
  • Ability to relate effectively to patients and staff.
  • Qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains complete medical history from patient, and/or family, and/or previous medical record.
  • Educates the patient and family member on the patient's diagnoses and treatment options.
  • Coaches and supports the patient in self-management of their health.
  • Teaches and counsels patients and families in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Consults with physicians and other members of the health care team as necessary.
  • Promotes the Team-based Care Model by participating in daily huddles and PCMH bi-weekly team meetings.
  • Provides primary medical care by caring for all patients in accordance with the physician's medical specialty.
  • Assesses, diagnoses, implements treatment, evaluates and monitors patients' health status.
  • Performs complete physical examinations on patients.
  • Utilizes evidence-based care practice guidelines when managing chronic conditions.
  • Diagnoses acute and chronic illness based on clinical findings and diagnostic procedures.
  • Collaborates, initiates, and monitors treatment plans with patients.
  • Refers patients requiring hospitalization or assessment to appropriate specialists.
  • Renders emergency care and treatment including CPR and ordering emergency medications.
  • Reviews other providers' notes as per the 'Chart Review Policy' of the JHC.
  • Maintains all patient records to comply with required standards.
  • Attends all medical staff meetings and participates in the JHC QI program.
  • Attends mandatory OSHA infection control seminars and follows infection control guidelines.
