About The Position

Nura is currently looking to hire a Staff Pharmacist working 32 hours/week (day hours and no weekends)! Under the direction of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, the staff pharmacist is responsible for performing a variety of professional level functions to assist in providing patients with optimum pharmaceutical care by overseeing and execution of receiving and reviewing provider orders and charts for an assigned caseload of patients receiving specialized, completed infusion therapy, applying clinical knowledge to appropriateness of prescription orders, verification of processed orders, working collaboratively and managing other pharmacy technicians to fill compound orders, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.
  • Current MN Pharmacist license. Willing to obtain TX, KY, and other state Pharmacist licenses if needed.
  • Strong math skills are essential.
  • Complete Sterile Compounding Training to meet the Texas requirements within 6 month of hire.
  • Must be capable of working with small, delicate pieces of expensive machinery to complete appropriate. dosage forms in a timely manner.
  • Must exhibit excellent customer service skills.
  • Must exhibit excellent problem resolution skills.
  • Must be capable of wearing all protective wear as required by State Board of Pharmacy and USP guidelines. This includes, but not limited to; mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
  • Must have knowledge of basic principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding.

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital/IV/clean room experience (Preferred).
  • 1 to 2 years of compounding and/or home infusion experience strongly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews all drug therapy to ensure that medication orders are reasonable, appropriate and chemically and physiologically compatible; checks to see that medications are intended to be given to the patient in the proper manner.
  • Using our compounding system, weigh and record the chemicals included in the formula and then combine the chemicals into the appropriate dosage form as requested by the prescription.
  • Assess all medication orders to ensure they meet established standards and practice guidelines of Nura. Checks admixtures for accurate preparation, including the additive(s), parent solution, and label.
  • Compounds, labels and dispenses controlled drugs to Nura locations.
  • Oversees pharmacy technician activities regarding preparation of intrathecal medications in accordance with established policies and procedures and performs quality control checks.
  • Participates in the ordering, storage and handling of medications and supplies and data entry into pharmacy computer system
  • Answer questions/provide consultation on drug selection/formulation based on current clinical guidelines to optimize drug therapy.
  • Collect, interpret and evaluate all physician medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, cost effectiveness, accuracy, safety and completeness.
  • Monitor patient progress and assessment results to communicate clinical and technical information with the physicians and other members of the Nura home infusion team.
  • Oversees the safe handling and preparation of various sterile medications for use in patients with surgical implanted pain pumps.
  • Adheres to safety requirements in the handling and preparation of non-hazardous medications in accordance with all safety and USP guidelines.
  • Investigates irregularities and policy violations and takes corrective action.
  • Assists in improvements to existing pharmacy methods and procedures as part of the department’s quality and Compliance improvement effort.
  • Participates in the Safety Reporting System. Identifies, and reports errors and adverse drug reactions
  • Monitors, documents and reports medication recalls.
  • Ensures compliance with controlled substance distribution and control system.
  • Participates is the training, education and mentoring of other pharmacists and technicians.
  • Attends department staff meetings as necessary.
  • On-Call responsibility as needed for Home Infusion.
  • Participate in readiness for Home Infusion accreditations surveys and other inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission, values, and strategies of Nura.
