The County Auditor is searching for a curious, and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Staff Performance Auditor I, Staff Performance Auditor II or a Senior Auditor (depending on qualifications). We work in a collaborative manner. We value creative thinking and new ideas to ensure our audits provide objective information to elected officials, the public, and county management. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, economics, law enforcement, social science, or other relevant field is required.
  • Experience may be substituted for education.
  • One (1) year professional level experience in a government, private, or non-profit organizational setting with emphasis in accounting, audit, public administration, finance, or other relevant work is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of professional level experience in a government, private, or non-profit organizational setting required for Staff Performance Auditor II.
  • Five (5) years of professional level experience in a government, private, or non-profit organizational setting required for Senior Performance Auditor.
  • A Master's degree in any relevant field is preferred for Staff Performance Auditor II and Senior Performance Auditor.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or other similar professional certification preferred for Senior Performance Auditor.
  • Previous experience auditing information systems and one (1) year leading, directing, supervising or coordinating the work of others preferred for Senior Performance Auditor.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in any relevant field is preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or other similar professional certification preferred for Senior Performance Auditor.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and analyzes information through research, inspections, interviews, and analytical procedures.
  • Prepares workpapers under Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards.
  • Writes clear, concise, and accurate summaries of audit assignments.
  • Works with others to achieve audit goals and objectives. Completes assigned duties and tasks on time.
  • Develops and maintains a proficiency in performance auditing through on-the-job training and continued professional education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Determines compliance with prevailing laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Helps prepare audit reports.
  • Collaborates on adjustments to audit plan and audit methodology.
  • Participates in assessments of internal control systems.
  • Writes audit reports.
  • Recommends revisions to the audit plan.
  • Assesses internal control systems for reliability and effectiveness.
  • Advises management on the effectiveness of controls.
  • Recommends corrective action to address control findings.
  • Schedules and manages assigned audit activities, resources, and deadlines.
  • Builds external relationships to ensure constructive communication and collaboration with County departments.
  • Coaches Staff Performance Auditor I & IIs.
  • Provides technical guidance, oversight, and leadership during audits.
  • Assists with professional development and training.
