The Laboratory Services Division of Children's of Alabama seeks a Pediatric Staff Pathologist. The successful candidate will join a group of 7 Pathologists with subspecialty training in Pediatric Pathology, Hematopathology, Neuropathology, Transfusion Medicine, and Microbiology. The group receives approximately 6,000 specimens per year (including surgical pathology, hematopathology, and cytopathology cases) and 25-30 autopsies per year. Our Pathologists participate actively in multidisciplinary rounds and site groups working closely with their clinical colleagues including the Comprehensive Cancer Care Program. On-call and medical autopsy coverage is required and shared within the group. The pathology group provides medical directorship of the hospital laboratories. Additional opportunities are available for leadership and growth within the department. The Department has a strong and diverse faculty, excellent training programs and a supportive atmosphere for practicing subspecialty academic pathology. Located in Birmingham, AL, Children's of Alabama has provided specialized medical care for ill and injured children since 1911. Ranked among the best children's hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Children's of Alabama serves patients from every county in Alabama and nearly every state. With more than 3.5 million square feet, it is one of the largest pediatric medical facilities in the United States. Children's of Alabama is the only health system in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children. The medical staff consists of UAB faculty and Children's of Alabama full-time physicians as well as private practicing community physicians. The pathology group is employed directly by Children's of Alabama with the opportunity to obtain an adjunct teaching appointment at UAB. To be considered, candidates must hold a MD from an accredited medical school and have completed an approved residency in anatomic and clinical pathology. Fellowship in Pediatric Pathology or other Pathology subspecialty is also required.
