Rutgers University Correctional Healthcare is seeking a part-time Staff Nurse (RN) for the Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Valid Driver's License required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
  • Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols.
  • Functions as a team leader as assigned.
  • Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths.
  • Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.
  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate-patient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) within the framework established by the correctional system.
