About The Position

Sign-on incentive: Candidates are eligible for a sign on incentive of up to $12,500 based on experience . The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a state-of-the-art observation unit, serving adults and adolescents experiencing a psychiatric crisis. The CSU can serve up to 12 patients at a time, in an open, therapeutic milieu. The CSU fosters a collaborative, inter-professional environment that supports all aspects of nursing practice, allowing you to deliver high-quality care using the most advanced technologies paired with the latest advancements in nursing. Members of the interdisciplinary treatment team are prepared to manage patients who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis and in need of immediate, around-the-clock care and observation. The unit’s open concept features a large central room with comfortable reclining chairs, rather than traditional hospital beds. Spaces for individual therapy are located immediately adjacent to the central living space. The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) to assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Percent of Time: 100% - 40 hours per week Schedule: Evening Shifts - 1500-2300. Holidays that land on the weekend or weekday would be included Location: Located in Iowa City, Iowa

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Nursing is required. OR; Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
  • License to practice nursing in the state of Iowa required by date of hire.
  • Minimum of six months inpatient nursing experience or recent internship on an inpatient unit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Successful history in building/facilitating interpersonal relationships involving patients, families, colleagues, and student-learners.
  • General proficiency with computers

Nice To Haves

  • Previous nursing experience working with behavioral health patient population.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • 2+ years of previous RN experience in a Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital Unit OR Emergency Psychiatric Medicine experience.
  • Adaptability to the unknown.
  • Interest in creative problem solving for unique clinical care challenges.
  • Ability to complete tasks autonomously and problem solve independently.
  • Experience utilizing electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures
