About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. The diabetes Registered Nurse (RN) will collaborate closely with the diabetes team, including physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and nursing staff, in both clinical and office settings. In the office, responsibilities will include triaging calls, coordinating patient care, managing MyChart messages, prescription refills, clinic prep and handling necessary documentation. In the clinical setting, the RN will provide patient education and ensure patients endocrine testing is complete Duties Include but are not limited to: Phone triage and mychart triage for medical questions-back up to clinical coordinator Respond to inquiries from physician offices, patients, patient family members, integrate information and respond if answers within scope of RN clinical practice, or forward to residents for appropriate escalation of care Clinic Prep Ensure appropriate testing (labs, testing, imaging) obtained before each clinic and ensure appropriate timeline for appointments (time-sensitive vs. first available) Manage referrals and determine appropriate testing based on algorithm or communication with provider Conduct check-in phone calls Be present in clinic for assistance with order entry, education and teaching Percent of Time: 90% 36 hours/week Schedule: Monday – Friday, 0830 - 1700 Location: John Pappajohn Pavilion (JPP) Rotations: No holidays, no weekends, no call Salary: $61,782 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort. Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
  • Minimum 1 years of nursing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required
  • Ability to communicate complicated information to children and their parents
  • Proven ability to problem solve
  • Proven ability to integrate into a team
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Pediatric Nursing experience
  • Ambulatory Nursing experience
  • Certification in diabetes education or once eligible to sit for the exam
