About The Position

The Staff Nurse is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health team and assumes responsibility for the standard of nursing care delivery in the clinic setting. PRN nurses are required to work a minimum of 24 hours per month based on clinic operational needs. Failure to meet this requirement may impact continued PRN status.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Oklahoma, in good standing.
  • Possess strong clinical and teaching skills.
  • Able to assume a leadership role in a team environment.
  • Strong interest in working with an interdisciplinary health team and culturally diverse patient population

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in ambulatory care preferred

Responsibilities

  • Proactively assumes the responsibility for the standard of nursing care delivery and customer service in the clinical areas.
  • Knowledgeable of the scope of practice for all nursing disciplines as described by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Able to effectively plan, oversee, direct, and evaluate all nursing activities in the clinical area. Appropriately delegates tasks to team members to maximize resources.
  • Effectively manages completion of routine clinic tasks. Establishes methods to ensure consistency in maintaining emergency supplies, stock medications, vaccines, forms, sterile instrument inventory, equipment, appropriate exam room inventory, etc.
  • Able to act as a primary resource in emergency situations.
  • Follows protocols and performs accurate and thorough work‑ups and check‑ins of all patients. Provide direct patient care (vitals, assessments, injections, medications, immunizations).
  • Accurately assesses current patient status as well as preventive health status and communicates needs to provider.
  • Initiates and provides accurate patient education based on assessment of patient needs and clinic standards of nursing care, and documents in patient record.
  • Provides skilled nursing care as demonstrated by safely and accurately performing technical skills (sterile dressings, EKGs, pulmonary treatments, etc.) and the safe accurate administration of medications, IV fluids, and immunizations.
  • Anticipates the needs of providers related to patient visits and assists providers as needed.
  • Exhibits caring qualities consistent with the values of the GSP Health.
  • Assumes role of patient advocate to ensure health needs are met, to include responding to patient phone messages and requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Documents all provider orders, nursing actions, and interventions on patient record consistent with guidelines, and utilizes approved abbreviations.
  • Appropriately triages patients on‑site and via telephone during hours of operation and after-hours when on-call for appropriateness and timeliness of care per approved triage protocols and standing orders.
  • Knowledgeable of and follows all established Infection Control guidelines and OSHA standards and participates in staff training events.
  • Performs approved laboratory testing, to include proper handling and labeling of all test samples, according to health center policy and procedure, and as allowed by CLIA guidelines.
  • Keeps patients and families informed of situations that affect the clinic visit, i.e., extended waiting times, seeing provider other than originally scheduled, etc.
  • Performs other duties incidental to work.
  • Meets deadlines to maintain current license and required annual training
  • Utilizes the Performance Improvement processes in identifying the clinic needs related to any aspect of patient care and customer service.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in work roles and schedules to meet the changing needs of the health center.
  • Maintains awareness of new information applicable to job, i.e., policies, meeting minutes, procedures, memos, protocols, and online training courses.
  • Utilizes slow times constructively to enhance clinic operations; assists other departments when time and workload permits.
  • Promptly informs supervisor of real or potential clinic problems. Maintains confidentiality of patients and staff.
  • Able to identify own areas of needed improvement, formulates goals and actively works toward those goals.
  • Understands organizational goals and performs job duties in a manner consistent with these goals.
  • Can be relied upon to meet work schedules and fulfill responsibilities and commitments, attendance, punctuality, dependability, initiative, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Has the ability to work remotely at the discretion of the supervisor and in alignment with GSP Health policies.
