About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 50% Staff Nurse to work at the Urology Clinic / OR Procedures. The position involves assessing patients' nursing care needs, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided, and integrating nursing theory and research into clinical practice. The nurse will provide leadership to members of the nursing team to maintain patient care standards. Duties include applying nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness, collaboratively coordinating the continuum of care across settings, and developing patient care plans based on various patient conditions. The nurse will also implement nursing interventions according to department policies and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • ACLS must be completed within a year.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities.
  • Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Follows universal precautions.
  • Opportunity to cross train to assist with clinic procedures.
  • Pre-operative check in for patients including IV starts and lab draws.
  • Nurse circulator/scrub for endoscopic urology procedures under MAC or general anesthesia.
