About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the 10E Oncology/SCT department. At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. This department is a stem cell transplant unit that has a dedicated, insightful and compassionate team able to care for complex patients with an array of cancer diagnoses. Our team is committed to providing high quality care in collaboration with our physician and multi-disciplinary partners to treat and educate patients and families. Educational opportunities exist to expand the knowledge of the team on advanced research, treatments and therapy. You will have the ability to work with physicians that are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward, conducting groundbreaking research and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.
  • Current RN Illinois license
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Must comply with UChicago Medicine’s COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process. This is in addition to your compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement as well. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered consistent with applicable law. Lastly, a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check are also required for all employees prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
  • Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager.
  • Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person and working as a team member.
  • Assists Care Center in development/attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice.
  • Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meeting needs.
  • Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.
