Staff Nurse RN - Meal Breaker - Telemetry
About The Position
Under the direction of the Telemetry Department Director, and Manager this position encompasses the provisions of care for telemetry and medical surgical patients. The registered nurse (RN) meal breaker is a dedicated RN whose primary responsibility is to provide temporary patient care coverage for other nurses during their legally mandated meal and rest breaks. This role ensures uninterrupted, high-quality patient care while supporting staff well-being and compliance with labor regulations. The RN meal breaker is expected to collaborate with the assigned charge nurse, assist with departmental readiness tasks, coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, and support smooth workflow transitions. This position is vital for balancing patient safety with staff rest requirements, contributing to both quality outcomes and a healthy work environment . Please note, this is a full-time, 8-hour shift position.
Requirements
- One-year experience in an acute care setting.
- Able to communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment, step into various patient assignments for short intervals, quickly assessing patient needs, administering medications as scheduled, responding to urgent situations, and maintaining accurate documentation.
- The RN must be able to adapt to different units and/or patient populations, communicate effectively with the primary RN before and after coverage, and uphold all safety and infection control standards.
- Current California State Nursing License
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
- Basic Arrhythmia and Basic 12-Lead EKG.
