The Gunderson Residence of McLean Hospital is an intensive residential program for individuals with personality disorders. The program uses an integrative treatment approach combining principles of various evidence-based treatments for borderline personality disorder, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), CBT, Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), and John Gunderson's Good Psychiatric Management of BPD (GPM). As these treatments are implemented in a highly interpersonally oriented milieu, patients learn more effective ways of managing their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and interpersonal relationships while an overall treatment emphasis is placed on the importance of building a life outside of treatment through improved functioning in normative social and vocational roles. The staff RN works closely with the clinical team to provide ongoing medical monitoring, assessment, and counseling for non-psychiatric medical conditions. The RN will provide brief therapy and psychoeducation around treatment, diagnosis, and medications. Duties include coordinating medical care with other McLean services and external clinics and hospitals. Additionally, the RN will provide containment and support for the community given that this is a milieu-based treatment committed to implementing specific evidence-based principles of interpersonal management. They will also be responsible for MAP certification training and testing for counselors and for providing nursing care within the standards of the department, hospital and regulatory agencies.
