The Pain Management RN is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, teaching, and evaluating nursing care, ensuring quality and efficiency according to established policies and procedures, and especially the performance of job-related technical skills. Nurses will be required to manage the message center and enter data into EHR, evaluate OARRS reports, and calculate medication due dates based on these reports in addition to information obtained from the physician's plan of care. Nurses will also be required to propose prescriptions to providers based on this information. Nursing Staff in Pain Management will work in the Pain Management procedure area, including prep, recovery, and the sterile surgical suite, managing individualized, goal-directed nursing care through the use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
  • Current Ohio Licensure
  • 1-2 years recent clinical experience
  • CPR certified
  • ACLS certified

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, direct, teach, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Ensure quality and efficiency according to established policies and procedures, and the performance of job-related technical skills.
  • Manage the message center and enter data into EHR.
  • Evaluate OARRS reports and calculate medication due dates based on this report in addition to information obtained from physician plan of care.
  • Propose prescriptions to providers based on this information.
  • Work in the Pain Management procedure area including, prep, recovery and the sterile surgical suite.
  • Manage individualized, goal directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Complete accurate documentation in patient records and charges.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and correct use of all forms in regards to the day-to-day operation of the department.
  • Assist physician with patient treatments.
  • Offer support to patient and monitor patient throughout procedure and afterward.
  • Complete dressing changes, suture and staple removal.
  • Complete charge information accurately.
  • Correctly identify patient by name for any direct care procedures and/or treatment; check identification of patient by use of their name band and registration sheet and assure that a patient is always banded with proper name.
  • Always verify with the patient the procedural laterality when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and understanding of the surgical patient's needs for comfort, positioning and safety, and follow through to provide these needs.
  • Actively participate in interdepartmental meetings and in services.
  • Review departmental minutes and seek information through personal inquiry.
  • Keep self informed of changes within department.
  • Make effective decisions and take immediate action in serious/emergency situations.
  • Document situation and rationale for decision on appropriate forms.
  • Report situation immediately to proper persons.
  • Evaluate results of action taken.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of department and management line of authority and follow proper line of communications and legislation affecting the profession, health care and current developments in the nursing field.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area’s policies and procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in workload and assignments.
  • Perform duties beyond the scope of the normal workload.
  • Regularly offer assistance to others in the order to complete workload.
  • Maintain an awareness of new regulations and legislation affecting the profession, health care and current developments in the nursing field.

  • Conduct all work activities with respect for the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, families and fellow employees including the maintenance of a pleasant quiet environment as observed by the manager.

  • Attend all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and participate in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.
  • Participate in and complete required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follow safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
