About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible for providing comprehensive care to a designated group of patients. This role involves utilizing the nursing process, therapeutic communication, and collaboration with healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN II is accountable for patient assessments, care planning, implementation, and evaluation, while also advocating for patients and their families.

Requirements

  • One year recent experience in Neonatal Level II nursery or completion of a KP NICU Training Program within the past 12 months.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program and completion of required clinical hours; or 2000 hours of RN experience in clinical specialty within three years of graduation; or graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program with 2000 hours of experience in the clinical area within three years before graduation; or currently enrolled in an accredited entry-level MSN program with completed pre-licensure requirements.
  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service orientation.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Cross-training to at least one other Maternal Child Health/Family Centered Care area with appropriate certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assessment/data collection focusing on various patient statuses including physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, and cognitive.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan of care when appropriate.
  • Implements care in a thorough and consistent manner.
  • Establishes priorities for patient care based on essential needs and available resources.
  • Identifies patient/family learning needs and acts to meet them.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights and cultural beliefs.
  • Provides and coordinates care for patients and patient populations.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties of healthcare team members.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care given by healthcare team members.
  • Utilizes effective communication methods and skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety principles within the institution.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency patient care situations.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice.
  • Participates in staff development activities for unit and department personnel.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues including patient confidentiality.
  • Participates in unit and Department Performance Improvement activities.
  • Participates in nursing research activities as requested.
  • Identifies and solves problems effectively.
  • Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions.
  • Provides data for staffing decisions and demonstrates flexibility in staffing issues.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer and telecommunication modalities for documentation.
  • Documents patient care and unit activities in a timely and accurate manner.
