About The Position

About the Role The Staff Nurse (Cancer Center) is responsible for delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care tailored to the unique needs of each individual and their family, in alignment with professional nursing standards. This role involves applying specialized knowledge in chemotherapy and/or radiation oncology to assess, screen, educate, and manage care for adult patients receiving treatment through Outpatient Oncology Services. The nurse also supports clinical operations and office functions, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork by rotating across various Oncology Service Departments as needed. A solid understanding of University Hospital, Joint Commission, and Department of Health regulations is essential. Additionally, the nurse actively contributes to evidence-based practice, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Must hold a current license to practice nursing in the State of New Jersey.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare professionals required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time hospital experience preferred.
  • Required certifications (must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment): Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/ONCC Provider Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate and/or Radiation Therapy Certificate.
  • IV/Venous Access Device Certification.
  • Must be available to work predetermined flexible hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Prior oncology nursing experience preferred.
  • National Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive, individualized patient care in alignment with professional nursing standards.
  • Specializes in chemotherapy and/or radiation oncology procedures.
  • Assesses, screens, evaluates, educates, and manages care for adult patients in Outpatient Oncology Services.
  • Supports both clinical practice and office operations.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork by rotating across Oncology Service Departments as needed.
  • Maintains working knowledge of University Hospital, Joint Commission, and Department of Health regulations.
  • Actively participates in evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Contributes to quality assurance (QA) and performance improvement (PI) initiatives.
