About The Position

The Psychologist evaluates patients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Moreover, the incumbent diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment. An employee in this position works closely with coalition partners to conduct assessments, provides individual and group counseling, provides consultation and case management to centers, coordinates training and technical assistance, and meets the goals and objectives of the department. The Psychologist also assists with data analysis and manuscript preparation and presentation. The Staff Neuro-Psychologist evaluates patients cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functions. The evaluation consists of an extended interview and comprehensive testing to diagnose and treat patient related subjective and objective complaints pertaining to altered mental status. An employee in this position works closely with other faculty and coalition partners to conduct assessments, provides individual tailored reports, provides feedback and counseling of test results. Specific recommendations are provided to accommodate patient needs. The Staff Neuro-Psychologist is also involved in training, and supervision of practicum students and fellows as well Neurology residents. This individual will also participate in research data collection for clinical trials and other clinical patient-based investigations. The Staff Neuro-Psychologist also assists with data analysis and manuscript preparation and presentation.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in relevant field
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies psychological, emotional or behavioral issues, and diagnoses disorders, using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, and reference materials.
  • Develops and implements individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy.
  • Interacts with clients to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and planning actions to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.
  • Discusses the treatment of problems with clients.
  • Utilizes a variety of treatment methods, such as psychotherapy, hypnosis, behavior modification, stress reduction therapy, psychodrama, and play therapy.
  • Counsels individuals and groups regarding problems, such as stress, substance abuse, and family situations.
  • Performs timely, complete, and legible documentation of services provided.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling or treatments and accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, and modifies plans and diagnoses.
  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy, design and implementation of individualized behavior plans, competency groups, psychological assessments and evaluations, and psycho-education.
  • Completes and submits reports in time frames designated and follows-up on all recommendations pertaining to responsible areas.
  • Supervises and trains the psychology students and the clinical team.
  • Serves as a consultant to the multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provides expert testimony in court proceedings and serves on committees.
  • Oversees the collection of data on target behaviors.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Evaluates patients’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
  • Conducts extended clinical interviews and comprehensive neuropsychological testing.
  • Diagnoses and treats patient complaints related to altered mental status.
  • Collaborates closely with Neurology faculty and coalition partners on assessments.
  • Prepares individualized, detailed neuropsychological reports.
  • Provides patient feedback and counseling regarding test results.
  • Develops specific recommendations and accommodations based on patient needs.
  • Trains and supervises practicum students, fellows, and Neurology residents.
  • Participates in research data collection for clinical trials and patient-based studies.
  • Assists with data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presentation of findings.
