About The Position

In this role, you will assist with the design of the Electric Propulsion System (EPS) production system, which includes the layout of the production line, manufacturing processes, automation, installation, and overall battery production ramp planning for a new manufacturing facility. You will apply your expert knowledge of Electric Motors and manufacturing processes to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Product Design Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Facilities in the development of a new EPS for an eVTOL aircraft. Your responsibilities will also include driving Design for Manufacturability efforts, determining requirements for automation and tools, developing the manufacturing Build Plan, conducting process failure mode and analysis (PFMEA), and overseeing Final Acceptance Testing of manufacturing equipment. Additionally, you will create and approve work instructions for battery assembly and installation, support first unit builds and testing of the production system, and develop and improve equipment validation procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3-6 years work experience, EV or aerospace preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Efficient documentation and written communication.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and highly regulated environment with adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Direct hands-on build experience with mechanical and electronic assemblies using sophisticated manufacturing equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical process control and GD&T.
  • Experience developing production lines from prototype to mass production.
  • Experience commissioning and improving Equipment with a track record of OEE improvement and maintenance activities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with CAD, PLM, MES, and ERP software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude for learning systems quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with EV Drive Unit manufacturing.
  • Experience with rotor assembly, stator assembly, and gearbox assembly processes in an EV Drive Unit.
  • Experience programming/troubleshooting industrial automation (PLC, robots, gantries, etc.).
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • EV/eVTOL knowledge or experience.
  • Experience with high voltage wiring, batteries, and electric motors.
  • Aircraft configuration management and conformity experience.
  • NX and AutoCAD experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of EPS production system including line layout and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply expert knowledge of Electric Motors to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability efforts with the product design team.
  • Determine requirements for automation, tools, stands, fixtures, etc.
  • Develop the manufacturing Build Plan and determine an appropriate MBOM.
  • Conduct process failure mode and analysis (PFMEA) for the EPS production system.
  • Develop specifications for tooling and automation equipment.
  • Develop efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee Final Acceptance Testing of manufacturing equipment.
  • Create/approve work instructions for Battery assembly and installation.
  • Support first unit builds and testing of the production system.
  • Develop and improve equipment validation procedures.
