About The Position

Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians. With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical). As a Staff Mission Critical Electrical Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of reliability and availability of the electrical power infrastructure across our global data center fleet. You will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) who drives Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major equipment failures, global maintenance and commissioning standards for the infrastructure, and provides executive technical direction for system planning, retrofits, and operational troubleshooting.Your core objective is to prevent critical system failures and mentor the next generation of engineers in a 24/7 mission-critical environment. Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • 10 years of experience with industry standards including NETA testing standards and NFPA 70E for electrical infrastructure.
  • 10 years of experience in a hyperscale data center infrastructure environment or in roles involving forensic engineering/expert witness responsibilities.
  • 10 years of experience in High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) infrastructure distribution equipment, including switchgear, protective relaying, and emergency generation systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant fields.
  • 10 years of experience leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major electrical infrastructure system failures in mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience leading complex electrical infrastructure engineering projects in an industrial environment.
  • Experience with power system modeling software (e.g., SKM, ETAP) for complex studies like transient analysis on electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Drive global operational standards and procedures for electrical maintenance, National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) testing, and commissioning, ensuring system reliability and safety across the data center infrastructure fleet.
  • Provide executive technical oversight and direction for power system studies, major infrastructure retrofits, and equipment modification programs.
  • Mentor and direct site-level facilities engineers on fault analysis, power system diagnostics, and operational problem-solving within the 24/7 mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Serve as electrical SME, leading high-stakes RCA for complex failures in High Voltage (HV)/Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear, generation, and UPS systems that form the core infrastructure.
