The Division of Allergy & Infectious Diseases has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Staff Human Resources Manager to join their team. The purpose of this position is to independently manage and oversee all aspects of staff HR operations for the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is a large and complex organization with 148+ faculty, 22+ fellows, 166+ staff involved with clinical care, research and teaching at over six sites. This position has substantial responsibility for exercising discretion and independent judgment in effecting and executing staff personnel functions; such as, recruitment and hiring, employee relations, compensation, and staff development. The role involves the ability to orchestrate high volumes of operational activities, understand the complexity and diversity of key knowledge areas, and apply expert judgement and decision making. This role requires significant organization, problem-solving, and communication skills with frequent and substantive interactions within and outside the Division. Individual initiative, solid judgement, discretion regarding sensitive and confidential matters and superior customer service skills are all necessary for the tasks assigned. This position requires accuracy, efficiency, flexibility, creativity, and a desire to serve multiple stakeholders, while working within UW regulations. This position requires a working knowledge and understanding of recruitment and compensation, leave management, performance management and will apply knowledge of University policies and procedures to ensure division compliance. Incumbent is expected to interpret, apply, and advise on all applicable University, state, and federal employment rules and regulations to ensure compliance. This position has a direct impact on the integrity and quality of the Division's clinical, academic and research programs. The Division shares the University's predominant missions of teaching, research and patient care.   • Oversee and manage all aspects of the recruitment process from conception to hire for the Division.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand objectives, assess hiring needs, create recruitment strategies, and manage searches through the recruitment life cycle.
  • Guide hiring managers to develop, modify and finalize job descriptions, initiate recruitment requests, and associated processes.
  • Consult with faculty to determine program management needs and supervisory reporting structure within their programs.
  • Provide expertise on standard hiring processes including interviews, candidate reviews, reference checks, and compliance with best practices at UW.
  • Manage onboarding, offboarding and associated Workday actions for Division employees.
  • Educate managers on current policy and practice information for onboarding and offboarding.
  • Review and recommend compensation setting for new hires and compensation change requests.
  • Research and analyze salary levels and compare for equity within the Division, Department, School of Medicine and University overall.
  • Analyze, review and advise managers and staff on revision of job descriptions to reflect current work.
  • Consult and educate managers on compensation actions, processes, requirements, developing justifications, etc.
  • Oversee and initiate various Workday compensation actions.
  • Coach and guide managers, supervisors on organizational matters, performance and corrective issues.
  • Oversee and process layoffs and/or furloughs for the Division for Campus HR review.
  • Serve as Division HR liaison and work closely with the UW HR employment team on a full spectrum HR issues.
  • Function as the Division's point-of-contact and liaison for HR grievances, investigation, fact-findings and employee conflicts.
  • Manage leave and accommodation matters within the Division, ensuring compliance.
  • Counsel staff on how best to utilize their paid leave and leave without pay during extended FMLA leaves.
  • Direct and manage staff performance evaluation process and ensure compliance with UW HR and Departmental processes.
  • Guide managers on best practices in conducting performance evaluations.
  • Facilitate and provide resources for employee development options.
  • Develop, implement and maintain division policies and procedures in relation to recruitment, position reviews, onboarding, off-boarding, and other HR processes.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Administrative Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with progressive responsibility in human resources or related field at a diverse, complex, multi-faceted organization.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other web-based programs.
  • Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Society for Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).
