About The Position

As a Staff Hardware Engineer at Viavi Solutions Inc., you will be a key contributor to the design, development, and validation of cutting-edge hardware solutions for our advanced network test and measurement products. You will work on complex, high-performance systems from concept to production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in hardware design and development, preferably in networking, telecommunications, or test and measurement industries.
  • Expertise in high-speed digital design, including experience with FPGAs (Xilinx, Altera), high-speed serial transceivers, and complex memory interfaces.
  • Strong proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Cadence Allegro).
  • Demonstrated experience with signal integrity and power integrity analysis tools and techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and other test equipment.
  • Solid understanding of power supply design, thermal management, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as PCIe, Ethernet, USB, and various communication protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, schematic capture, and layout supervision of complex digital and analog circuitry, including high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, DDR, Ethernet), FPGAs, microcontrollers, and power management solutions.
  • Conduct detailed design analysis, simulations (e.g., signal integrity, power integrity, thermal), and worst-case scenario analysis to ensure robust and reliable hardware performance.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive hardware test plans, conduct bring-up, debug, and validation of prototypes and production boards.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including software, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to define requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure seamless product integration.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate components, managing supplier relationships and addressing obsolescence issues.
  • Generate detailed design documentation, including specifications, test reports, and manufacturing instructions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in hardware design processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the hardware team.
