About The Position

The Engineering Geology group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, motivated, talented Staff Geologist for immediate employment in the Oakland, California office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of geologic processes and will learn how geologic conditions can impact design and construction of large projects. Requirements

  • BA/BS in Geology or Earth Science, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of field data collection, data review and preparation of technical documents.
  • Experience describing soil and rocks.
  • Knowledge of identification and description of all manner of soil and rock types, field investigation techniques, laboratory analyses, interpretation of published and project-specific geologic data.
  • Exhibits in-depth knowledge of geologic processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with other AECOM personnel, project teaming partners, clients, contracted service providers, and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding field tasks including site reconnaissance mapping, drilling and trenching explorations, and construction site monitoring and testing.
  • Experience preparing reports including summarizing field activities and results, performing analyses, developing interpretations, conclusions, and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Will conduct geologic and geomorphic mapping.
  • Log exploratory borings during drilling and collect soil and rock samples.
  • Install monitoring wells, inclinometers and other instrumentation.
  • Provide fieldwork oversight of subcontractors.
  • Evaluate exploratory test pits and trenches.
  • Conduct geophysical surveys and other in situ testing.
  • Observe and monitor construction activities for large civil projects (e.g., tunnels, dams, pipelines, bridges, levees, highways, and building foundations).
  • Prepare boring logs, data analysis summary, generation of subsurface cross sections and profiles, and report writing.
  • Assist with developing and managing tasks from budget and proposal preparation, development of the work plan, overall task coordination, coordinating and overseeing a variety of investigation techniques.
  • Will work in the field on large construction projects to verify that design requirements, recommendations, and intent are implemented during construction.
  • Will work on engineering geology and civil engineering projects that require evaluation of geologic site characteristics through various methods of mapping, drilling, trenching, and geophysical surveying.
