The Staff Geologist works with Scientists and Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Professionals on a wide variety of environmental remediation, investigation, and compliance projects primarily for federal clients. Responsibilities include field work planning and coordination, subcontractor oversight, supporting subsurface investigations, environmental drilling oversight, groundwater well installation oversight, environmental sampling of various media, data management support/tabulation, data quality control review, results reporting, writing technical reports, and technical peer reviews. Assists project team in all project phases including planning, data collection and management, project documentation, field sampling, site assessment activities, and technical report writing. Supports the preparation of work planning documents and associated deliverables. Prepares environmental technical data summary reports. Performs data and documentation quality assurance/quality control reviews and supports the production of effective technical reports. Executes activities and workflow to meet established program goals and objectives. Maintain open communication with project staff regarding all issues and develop resolutions. Performs tasks in a safe manner. Travels to clients and project sites as needed. Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology
  • 0-3 years of experience in an environmental field
  • Ongoing development of oral and written communication skills with increased ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Motivated to build working relationships and interact with multidisciplinary teams
  • Interpersonal, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple schedule deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to pass a law enforcement/financial background check for access to military and government facilities, as needed

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) internship completed in relevant field
  • Understanding of hydrology / hydrogeology
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping and data analysis
  • 40-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and annual refreshers
  • 8-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Supervisor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration 30-hour Construction Safety Supervisor
  • Experience compiling, analyzing, and reporting on technical data from a variety of sources including reports, field observation, testing results, tabular data, databases, and other existing reports and figures
