About The Position

The Staff Geologist I position at Tanaq Environmental, LLC. involves supporting geologic and hydrogeologic investigations under the guidance of a licensed Project Geologist. This role includes field investigations, well drilling, environmental assessments, and remediation efforts, primarily requiring travel across the United States. The position is hybrid remote, based in or near Montgomery, AL or Phoenix, AZ, with significant travel expectations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant field experience as a geologist, preferably in environmental geology and investigations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute multiple assignments at various locations.
  • Professional demeanor with a positive, solution-seeking attitude, team player, and personal responsibility.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation of drilling subcontractors.
  • Log soil samples and drill cuttings and prepare soil boring logs and well construction records.
  • Collaborate with a Project Geologist to determine appropriate well construction details based on lithologic findings.
  • Conduct aquifer testing, including slug tests and aquifer pumping tests.
  • Evaluate aquifer testing data to determine aquifer and formation characteristics.
  • Support preparation of subcontract specifications for drilling and subsurface investigation subcontractors.
  • Assist in competitive procurement of drilling and subsurface investigation subcontractors.
  • May serve as Field Team Leader during field investigations, leading sampling of groundwater, soil, sediment, and surface water for laboratory analysis.
  • Support preparation of lithologic logs, potentiometric surface maps, GIS maps, and tables presenting results of field investigations.
  • Draft technical reports that include descriptions of geology, hydrogeology, extent of contamination, and fate and transport of site contaminants.
  • Support the development of site remediation processes, including removal actions and in-situ treatment.
  • Assist in remediation planning, including preparation of planning and safety documents.
  • Oversee contractors conducting site remediation field activities, including groundwater injections and removal actions.
  • Review drilling subcontractor invoices and evaluate subcontractor performance in accordance with approved plans.
