$185,000 - $265,000

About The Position

Verkada is transforming how organizations protect their people and places with an integrated, AI-powered platform. A leader in cloud physical security, Verkada helps organizations strengthen safety and efficiency through one connected software platform that includes solutions for video security, access control, air quality sensors, alarms, intercoms, and visitor management. Over 30,000 organizations worldwide, including more than 100+ companies in the Fortune 500, trust Verkada as their physical security layer for easier management, intelligent control, and scalable deployments. Founded in 2016, Verkada has expanded rapidly with 15 offices and 2,200+ full-time employees. We are actively looking for an experienced front-end engineer to join our core engineering group, with a specific focus on our Design Systems and UI architecture. As a crucial driver of our user interface, you will build, scale, and maintain the foundational component library that powers our enterprise applications. You will act as the vital bridge between Design and Engineering, partnering closely with 8+ product teams to deliver a cohesive, accessible, and beautiful web experience that supports a suite of connected devices at scale. In this role, you will go beyond building individual features; you will help evolve the UI architecture and design tokens that ensure consistency and accelerate development. While your primary focus will be on the Platform UI and Design System, you will operate within a highly collaborative platform environment with opportunities to engage with our broader microfrontend and core infrastructure initiatives.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience in front-end web development with a strong focus on UI/UX.
  • Expertise working with modern web technologies, specifically React, TypeScript, and modern styling solutions (e.g., CSS-in-JS, CSS Modules).
  • Proven track record of building, maintaining, or significantly contributing to design systems, component libraries, or comprehensive UI frameworks.
  • Tooling proficiency: Deep experience with component-driven development and documentation tools like Storybook.
  • Accessibility focus: Strong, practical knowledge of web accessibility standards (ARIA, WCAG) and how to build compliant components.
  • Design fluency: Experience collaborating directly with designers and a strong understanding of design tokens, typography, layout systems, and responsive design.
  • Degree in Computer Science, HCI, or a similar technical/design field of study.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve the Design System: Collaborate with engineering leadership to develop and scale our centralized, React-based component library, ensuring it remains highly reusable and easy to consume.
  • Bridge Design and Engineering: Partner deeply with the Product Design team to translate design visions and Figma tokens into robust, pixel-perfect, and interactive web components.
  • Empower product engineering: Support, collaborate with, and mentor engineers across 8+ distinct product teams, driving system adoption and helping them implement UI best practices.
  • Champion Accessibility (a11y): Advocate for and implement strict accessibility standards (WCAG) across all shared components, ensuring our enterprise products are inclusive and usable by everyone.
  • Ensure UI Quality and Performance: Write comprehensive automated tests (unit, visual regression) for components, and optimize UI rendering performance for complex single-page applications.
  • Drive Documentation and Tooling: Maintain excellent documentation (e.g., via Storybook) and usage guidelines, making it frictionless for product teams to discover and implement components.
  • Contribute to the Broader Platform: Ensure the design system integrates seamlessly into our massive microfrontend architecture, with opportunities to contribute to core frontend tooling and infrastructure as needed.
