The Staff Engineer will serve as a technical linchpin across the engineering organization, strengthening the company’s architectural foundation and accelerating the delivery of complex, high-impact capabilities. This role operates as a senior individual contributor with broad influence—driving technical coherence, modernizing systems, and elevating engineering standards at scale. Rather than being embedded within a single squad, you will work fluidly across teams, partnering closely with engineering leaders to identify systemic gaps, guide architectural decisions, and unblock critical initiatives. Your impact is both strategic and hands-on: shaping long-term technical direction while stepping in where needed to resolve mission-critical challenges, improve execution velocity, and ensure the platform scales with the business.

  • Define and own the platform’s architectural roadmap across frontend, backend, and mobile, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with long-term product and business goals.
  • Partner with DevOps to evolve infrastructure and delivery pipelines, optimizing CI/CD, cloud architecture, and reliability to support architectural standards and execution velocity.
  • Proactively identify technical gaps and architectural constraints within the current stack, researching, recommending, and leading the adoption of modern tools, frameworks, and design patterns.
  • Drive cross-team technical alignment by identifying silos, standardizing shared libraries and code practices, and improving interoperability across engineering teams.
  • Act as a senior technical accelerator across the organization, embedding with teams as needed to resolve complex architectural challenges, unblock critical initiatives, and break technical deadlocks.
  • Provide a holistic technical perspective in leadership and planning forums, surfacing systemic risks, technical debt, and improvement opportunities that impact platform health and scalability.
  • Partner closely with Product to evaluate new feature initiatives, delivering early technical feasibility assessments and architectural guidance to inform prioritization and roadmap decisions.
  • Lead architectural scoping and level-of-effort estimation for major initiatives, producing clear technical blueprints that enable teams to execute with confidence and consistency.
  • Champion engineering excellence through mentorship and standards, conducting high-impact code reviews, defining “golden path” documentation, and elevating system design capability across senior engineers.
  • Raise the technical bar across the organization by coaching engineers on architectural thinking, long-term tradeoffs, and scalable design principles that support sustained growth.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated impact in senior or staff-level roles required.
  • Proven experience designing and scaling complex, distributed systems, with a strong foundation in systems architecture and platform thinking.
  • Full-stack fluency across modern web and mobile architectures like Ruby on Rails, React Native, cloud-native backend services, and well-designed APIs.
  • Strong infrastructure and cloud expertise, with hands-on experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP, containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Demonstrated strength in scoping and estimation, translating ambiguous product requirements into clear technical milestones and execution plans.
  • Experience influencing multiple teams without direct authority, operating effectively in highly collaborative, matrixed engineering environments.
  • A track record of leading organization-wide technical initiatives, such as platform evolutions, architectural migrations, or large-scale system improvements.
  • Strategic, systems-level thinking, paired with a willingness to dive into the code to resolve critical issues and unblock teams.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence skills, enabling alignment and consensus across engineering, product, and leadership partners.
  • High adaptability in dynamic environments, with the ability to shift focus rapidly as priorities evolve or technical emergencies arise.
  • A calm, solutions-oriented problem-solving approach, trusted to step into high-pressure situations and drive efficient, effective resolution.
