The Staff System Design Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific plays a pivotal leadership role in the development and lifecycle management of next-generation portable handheld systems. This position involves evaluating technology options, crafting specifications, and supporting the transition to manufacturing while ensuring customer satisfaction. The engineer will lead multidisciplinary teams, drive innovative solutions, and collaborate across functions to optimize system configurations and workflows.

  • Lead the development of next-generation workflows and products.
  • Evaluate technology options and craft specifications for new systems.
  • Validate and verify products, transitioning them to manufacturing.
  • Support customer rollout of new systems and improvements to current systems.
  • Conduct experiments and trade-off studies to inform design decisions.
  • Advise and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring effective collaboration across functions.
  • Define and manage product requirements, coordinating with various stakeholders.
  • Drive good engineering practices and facilitate self-guided teams to meet program objectives.
  • Resolve technical issues impacting product introduction and ramp-up.
  • Showcase features to collaborators and incorporate customer feedback into product features.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in system design and development.
  • 10+ years of technical leadership in requirements-based workflow and product development.
  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and making design decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive collaborative and innovative solutions under fixed project schedules.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively within the organization and with customers.
